Career and Research

A career should be combination of these three factors:
  • What I am good at (Aptitude)
  • What I like doing(Interest)
  • What are my personality traits, which will affect my career decision.
Why these factors?
Imagine you doing something really good but you dont enjoy that work, how frustrating that will be . or imagine you like doing something, but somehow not being able to perform well, how demotivating that will be, that is why a combination of interest and aptitude. Considering personality traits is also very important factor because certain aptitude and interest may lead to a career which may or may not suit our personality.
for example: someone is good at analytical skills, finding root cause of the problems. this trait can lead to careers like data analysis, research, economist, psychologists , criminologists, forensic investigation and many more. now, that depends on person’s particular traits to make a perfect match.
there are few online test available, but I suggest to meet any career psychologist in person to have in depth discussion about your career choices based on your test reports.
to mention few;
  • 16 personality factors is good personality test
  • CIS for interest test and
  • DBDA for aptitude test.
These tests help to narrow down career choices based on one’s personality.

In business and industry, 16 PF facilitates personnel selection and development by identifying personal qualities that influence behaviors in work settings, such as problem-solving style and interpersonal style.

DBDA is David’s Battery of Differential Abilities (DBDA) : This test measures basic and broad abilities, like - verbal ability, numerical ability, spatial ability, closure ability, reasoning ability, mechanical ability, clerical ability and psycho motor ability.
